Boxing Basics with Coach Justin Zabroski – Friday @ 6:30-7:30pm

If you haven’t started boxing/striking yet but are looking for a safe and easy way to get started, this is it! Classes typically start with a solid strength and conditioning style boxing-specific warmup, followed by technical instruction and practice time doing shadowboxing or bag-work. We cover all the fundamentals you need to know to be a solid boxer in this class. No sparring, only partner drills and reaction-speed training. You will need to get your own boxing gloves and hand wraps for this class. You can purchase them from us here.

All Levels Boxing with Coach Billie Torres – Monday & Wednesday 6:30-8:00pm

Coach Billie Torres offers a diverse boxing class for students of all skill levels. Her extensive coaching background shines through every class, where you can expect to get a great conditioning workout as well as excellent technical instruction. She is an experienced, USA Boxing-certified coach.

Many students will progress from the basic drills to flow-sparring (safe-minimal contact sparring which optimizes learning rate) at the end of class. And for the students who are at a high enough level, and who are interested, there is the option to do coach-supervised full-contact sparring with a well-suited sparring partner that the coach picks. In addition, we have an amateur boxing team and will train motivated individuals for competition.

Head Coach Justin Zabroski

(IPFS FOUNDER)

I am a professional MMA fighter and the head coach/founder of IPFS Gym. Boxing was my first combat sports experience 25 yrs ago at age 15. I feel that boxing is fundamental to fighting, and I’m incredibly passionate about teaching beginners’ fundamentals to lay the foundations of success as well as cultivating athletes to advanced levels and building up fighters to competitive levels.

I believe that there is no reason that dangerous head impacts should be necessary in the learning process, and that students can progress much more quickly with a DEFENSIVE foundation of footwork, head movement, blocking and parrying, and distance control. If students develop their defensive foundation before sparring, they develop without a flinch or any bad habits that could cost them later on in a match. The result over time is incredible – the beautiful movement and timing of the fighters we turn out is worth the effort of committing to a strict technical structure and maintaining a gym culture around defense and movement.

My mittwork and drill system is purpose built to accomplish these results, and the results speak for themselves if you watch the sparring and match highlights of the fighters I’ve trained.
Even at age 40+ I lead by example and spar regularly, sharing my footage with my students. I’m maintaining a full training regimen and I’m looking to continue pro fighting in MMA and branch into pro boxing into my 40’s – training longevity and injury prevention being the highest ideal in my mind.

Coach Billie Torres

Hello, my name is Billie Torres, and I have been a boxing coach at C4 Boxing Club in Corvallis for the past 15 years. In total, I have been involved in the boxing world for 20 years. For 13 of those years, my gym was located in my former church, which closed down 3 years ago. As a coach, I have guided eight young boxers during their competitions, and I am also certified by USA Boxing as an official. Additionally, my son is a two-time State and Regional Champion in the Silver Gloves. When my gym closed, I reached out to Justin and Emily, the owners of The Fight System, to see if they had space available for my team to train. After meeting with them and doing some praying, my prayers were answered. They graciously invited my team and me to join them. I have been with them for the past 3 years, and it has been an amazing experience. I run my classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and I teach the Youth Boxing class on Friday nights with two other great coaches. I am excited to be heading into a new competition season!

“The true driver of results in boxing is the CARE that a coach puts into their athletes. It’s a personal investment of your own energy for another human being. Imagine for a moment the care involved for someone who coached their own child to championship level. That’s what Coach Billie brings to the table in this.
The care that she puts into each boxer, not just the fighters, but every beginner who comes to us, is amazing. Her attention to detail and patience is second to none.
Coach Billie models selflessness in every aspect of her life, more than just boxing, an overall inspiring human being that I am proud to have in my life and as a friend.”

Coach Ethan Stanley

Coach Ethan Stanley is 2-time State and 2-time Regional Champion in the Silver Gloves (Youht Boxing). He Coaches our Boxing Basics Class on Fridays. Ethan coaches Football during the season, building his well-rounded coaching and athletics experience base.
“Ethan was my sparring partner for two of my pro fights, and I can tell you he is the real deal. His boxing is a puzzle that is difficult to solve! He has a remarkable balance of outside range and close-range skills, with movement and angles. Even though Ethan hasn’t fought for many years, his sparring level easily equaled that of actively fighting champions and pros I sparred with in the community at that time. Ethan is huge asset for our team, and great on the mitts.” – Coach Justin Zabroski

Coach Josh Wood

2x national champion, Coach Josh Wood has been an invaluable contributor to the IPFS boxing program, working closely with Coach Justin and all of the other fighters to share his knowledge and experience.
Starting boxing at age 8 and beginning competing in amateur boxing at age 10, Josh accumulated over 100 fights of amateur experience with a fantastic win-loss ratio, eventually winning the Title Nationals tournament in Vegas in 2018 and 2019.

Raised by world-renowned boxing trainer Rodney Crisler, Joshua grew up watching his father train elite fighters like Beibut Shumenov, Devin Haney, and Blagoy Ivanov. With over a decade of experience, he brings extensive knowledge and passion to the sport.

Josh is a master evasive counter-fighter, who barely gets touched in his sparring and matches – the perfect fit for the IPFS team paradigm of taking minimal damage in a fight.

Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced boxer aiming to refine your technique, Coach Josh is dedicated to helping you reach your full potential.

“The time Josh Wood and I have spent together over the last 5 years has been incredibly valuable for my own development and priceless for our team. I actually improved my boxing between ages 35 and 40, something most people wouldn’t think is possible. I credit the presence of Josh Wood on our team for making this possible.”  – Coach Justin Zabroski
